G.&M. Vergottis Foundation: Honoring the memory of Fotis Pavlatos with a symbolic donation to "Sotir"

The George & Marie Vergottis Foundation bids farewell to Fotis Pavlatos, Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Athens, and honors his memory with a symbolic donation to the Cephalonian Orphanage "O Sotir". The Foundation's press release follows.

 

In memory of

FOTIS PAVLATO

Professor of Endocrinology, University of Athens

 

Professor Fotis Pavlatos recently passed away, full of years. A high-level scientist, a charismatic teacher devoted to his work, and a doctor with exemplary responsibility and particularly humane behavior.

 

He spent his entire career at the University of Athens, at Laiko Hospital, except for the years of his postgraduate training in America. At a young age, in America, he devised a method for studying the adrenal glands which has been cited for 55 years in books all over the world under his name. The European Society of Endocrinology, at one of its Conferences, awarded him a special prize for completing 50 years of study and research contribution.

 

As a teacher, he remained in the minds of his thousands of students as an example.

 

In the social sector, he left his mark as president of the Hellenic Medical Society for the nuclear and biochemical threat. It was then that the book "Grigoris Lambrakis, the Pioneering Pacifist Doctor" was published with his foreword.

 

Those who knew him, his colleagues, his students and his patients, refer to his name with esteem and respect. And this is not only an honor to his memory but an example for the generations of today and tomorrow in our society.

 

The George & Marie Vergottis Foundation honored Fotis Pavlatos in February 2016 for his timeless contribution to Medicine, Research and Teaching, organizing an event in his honor at the Alkis Argyriadis Rectorate Amphitheater of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). Within the framework of the same event, the Foundation also awarded the first three successful candidates from each direction from the Prefecture of Kefalonia in the Panhellenic Examinations of 2015, with the late Pavlatos presenting the commendations to the distinguished students and addressing them with their first university speech-lesson.
