Preface
The Kefalonian Globe offers a different approach to information and information about our island. At a time when social media encourages immediacy of information, we have chosen a different path.
Our idea was to complement the Kefalonian information offering with fewer, but more comprehensive articles, emphasising quality over quantity. We also wanted to highlight issues related to our traditions, our landscapes, and the social issues of our time, always giving the floor to the people of Kefalonia. We were, in fact, the first media on the island to be entirely bilingual in Greek and English, inspiring others to follow.
I remember the surprise and doubt of those close to me when we announced that we would be publishing one article a week. "Just one?" they said. "It will never work." But a year later, the result is here. As our content grew, our audience naturally grew each month. And we're very happy and proud of that.
Our business model is also very innovative, as the Kefalonian Globe does not include any advertising on its website and intends to be funded through initiatives such as this book and others in the future - always with the aim of providing quality content in the long term.
The proceeds from these sales will be fully reinvested in the development of the newspaper to fund more journalists and investigative journalism - the most noble part of the profession, but one that is tragically absent from the Greek media landscape.
