Press Release from "Laiki Syspeirosi" (Popular Rally) Regarding the Collapse of a Second Lamppost in Lixouri Square and the Dangerous Situation Developing in Lixouri

Published below is a press release from the "Laiki Syspeirosi" of Lixouri Municipality, concerning the collapse of a second lamppost in Lixouri square and the dangers that, according to the announcement, arise for public safety.

THE MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY OF LIXOURI IS NOT JUST ANTI-POPULAR, IT IS DANGEROUS

A second lamppost collapsed today, 4/2/2026, in front of the astonished eyes of citizens in Lixouri's Central Square, and by sheer luck, there were no casualties or material damage. It is obvious that the Administration of Lixouri Municipality can no longer invoke either weather conditions or material failure. This particular project —the replacement of old light fixtures with lighter and unsuitable bodies— has been delivered quite some time ago and has already proven its "durability" and its dangerousness.

All that remains now is for us to mourn victims.

We denounce the Municipal Authority to the citizens of our Municipality for exposing them to immediate danger. We call on all competent authorities to take the necessary actions to protect the life and property of citizens from an outrageously dangerous Municipal Authority, which refuses to do so itself.

Today, all the much-touted priorities of the Administration are debunked in the most emphatic way. From “smart” installations to lighting changes and the miserable, now useless, asphalt paving, it is proven that the only things served were business interests and the groups behind them, and not the popular needs and the safety of residents. It is proven in practice that when projects are delivered by the Municipal Authority that end up on the heads and properties of citizens, something very rotten exists in the "state of Denmark". A management steeped to the core in logics that push millions to corporations, burdening the people with taxes and insecurity.

We call on the Municipal Authority, even now (and at least for as long as weather conditions make unsuitable lights "time bombs"), to take responsibility and implement all necessary safety measures, proceeding with immediate demarcation of dangerous zones in the square. It must guarantee the safe passage of citizens and the protection of workers (TAXI) and their activities, before we mourn victims.

Laiki Syspeirosi demands that the Municipal Authority immediately remove these specific light fixtures, the dangerous asphalt paving, as well as any "smart cities" project infrastructures that pose risks, in order to ensure the self-evident: the life and safety of citizens.
