Ithaca: Actions for the sea and a special screening of “Ocean with David Attenborough”

The environmental organisation Cyclades Preservation Fund (CPF) is holding two days of actions dedicated to marine protection on Ithaca, on 27 and 28 August 2026, as part of the nationwide Revive Our Ocean Greece initiative.

The initiative aims to inform and mobilise local communities around the importance of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), contributing to the international and national 30×30 target: protecting 30% of our oceans and seas by 2030.

Special screening of “Ocean with David Attenborough”

On Thursday 27 August, the international production Ocean with David Attenborough, narrated by the legendary David Attenborough, will be screened at the Municipal Cinema of Ithaca.

The screening will be preceded by a short informational video from the Revive Our Ocean Greece initiative about the AMORGORAMA programme, as well as an open discussion with the audience. The discussion will focus on the protection of the marine environment, local environmental challenges, the particular prospects of the Ionian Sea, and the decisive role of local communities in protecting the seas.

The 90-minute documentary will then be screened in English with Greek subtitles.

About the film

Ocean with David Attenborough carries a powerful message of hope for the future of the seas. Through stunning imagery and scientifically grounded storytelling, it highlights the unique beauty of the underwater world and the modern threats it faces.

At the same time, it presents success stories proving that nature can recover when given meaningful and effective protection.

“Ocean with David Attenborough” has been nominated for six Emmy Awards, including:

• Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special
• Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program
• Outstanding Narrator
• Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary Series or Special

Educational snorkelling activity for children

Open invitation to participate

On the morning of Friday 28 August, an educational snorkelling activity for children will take place at Frikes, in collaboration with Galazia Venthos and with the support of Nautilus Diving Club, which will provide a boat and certified instructors.

Children over the age of 8 who can swim are invited to take part. The aim is to experience the marine ecosystem of Ithaca first-hand and to become familiar with the need to protect it through a unique experience of exploration, knowledge and contact with the underwater world.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The Revive Our Ocean Greece initiative, coordinated by CPF, is held under the auspices of the Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA) and National Geographic Pristine Seas.
